A Couple of Items Illustrating Disarray and Infighting in the AGW Movement

I never heard the term "we don't know" so often from a group that supposedly has settled so much.

And The Evidence Continues to Mount...Unrelentingly.

That the IPCC doesn't understand the problem they have created an empire to solve. From down under...

CATASTROPHIC predictions of global warming usually conjure with the notion of a tipping point, a point of no return.Last Monday - on ABC Radio National, of all places - there was a tipping point of a different kind in the debate on climate change. It was a remarkable interview involving the co-host of Counterpoint, Michael Duffy and Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs. Anyone in public life who takes a position on the greenhouse gas hypothesis will ignore it at their peril.

Duffy asked Marohasy: "Is the Earth stillwarming?"

She replied: "No, actually, there has been cooling, if you take 1998 as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your point of reference, then temperatures have plateaued. This is certainly not what you'd expect if carbon dioxide is driving temperature because carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have actually been coming down over the last 10 years."

Duffy: "Is this a matter of any controversy?"

Marohasy: "Actually, no. The head of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has actually acknowledged it. He talks about the apparent plateau in temperatures so far this century. So he recognises that in this century, over the past eight years, temperatures have plateaued ... This is not what you'd expect, as I said, because if carbon dioxide is driving temperature then you'd expect that, given carbon dioxide levels have been continuing to increase, temperatures should be going up ... So (it's) very unexpected, not something that's being discussed. It should be being discussed, though, because it's very significant."

Duh! How can the earth be warming if the oceans are not?

And now comes the NASA JPL with its own study of ocean temperatures that revealed a surprising thing. Surprising, that is, if you are a chicken little AGW zealot. Their project uses an array of 3,000 buoys that not only measure surface temps, but at depths up to 3,000 feet down.

Seems that the oceans have not been getting warmer at all.... Surprised?

Fear, fear, more fear and alarm. Baseless conclusions.

Pretty soon they'll be blaming climate change for the Kennedy assassination...

The conflict in Darfur, migration from flood-prone Bangladesh and hopes for stability in the Middle East, according to a new EU report.

From Africa to Asia, and from pole to pole, climate change has become "a threat multiplier which exacerbates existing trends, tensions and instability," warns the seven-page report on "Climate change and international security", to be presented to a European summit in Brussels on March 13-14.

Among the listed threats are "reduction of arable land, widespread shortage of water, diminishing food and fish stocks, increased flooding and prolonged droughts."
These problems, according to the report drawn up by the offices of EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner, "are already happening in many parts of the world".

The rest of the fiction.....

Another example of chicken little's sad, shrill exaggeration

This appears in the UK-based TimesOnline. Another example of "the-end-justifies-the-means" practice of hyperbole and distortion employed by Eco-nazis to spread their dogma of fear and alarm:

Series of blunders turned the plastic bag into global villain

Scientists and environmentalists have attacked a global campaign to ban plastic bags which they say is based on flawed science and exaggerated claims.

The widely stated accusation that the bags kill 100,000 animals and a million seabirds every year are false, experts have told The Times. They pose only a minimal threat to most marine species, including seals, whales, dolphins and seabirds...
